After a hard-fought international friendly, the Black Stars faced a 2-0 loss against Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The intensity displayed by the Mexican side left Chris Hughton, the manager of the Black Stars, acknowledging the challenges his team encountered.
This match marked the second friendly for the Black Stars, following their victory over Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium. Prior to this defeat, Chris Hughton had maintained an unbeaten record in his first five games as Head Coach.

Mexico, led by manager Jaime Lozano, had previously drawn matches against Australia and Uzbekistan. Their formidable starting lineup included players like Raul Jimenez from Fulham and former Napoli forward Hirving Lozano.
While the Black Stars exhibited promise in the first half, they couldn’t maintain their momentum against the Mexican side. Hughton, speaking at the post-match press conference, admitted that the Mexican side proved to be a tough opponent.
In the first half, the Black Stars managed well, with moments of control in the game. However, the intensity of the Mexican side in the second half proved challenging. Two defensive lapses resulted in the goals that tilted the match in Mexico’s favor.
Hirving Lozano of PSV Eindhoven found the net in the 57th minute, followed by Antuna’s second goal in the 72nd minute.
Ghana initiated the match with a three-defender formation, while the midfield saw Thomas Partey and Elisha Owusu partnering. The final score against Mexico is Chris Hughton’s first defeat after two victories and two draws in his previous four games. The Black Stars are now gearing up for a match against the United States of America in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
