David Goggins

David Goggins is a former American Navy SEAL, an ultramarathon runner, triathlete, ultra distance cyclist, public speaker and author of two memoirs. He is also a well-recognized motivational speaker.

Childhood & Education of David Goggins

Goggins was born to Jackie Goggins and Trunnis. He had a quite difficult time growing up. He was a victim of abuse and prejudice earlier in his life. David grew up in poverty.

In the early 1980s, he lived in Williamsvile, New York. Goggins talked of his struggles back in school. He was enrolled in a small Catholic School.

He explicated how he was constantly subjected to racism for the duration at school. David Goggins spoke on how a student sprayed ‘nigger’ on his car when he was 16 years old.

Career

At first, Goggins sought to enlist in the United States Air Force Pararescue and began training for it. In contrast, in the course of this training, he received a diagnosis of sickle cell trait, leading to his temporary removal from the program.

Consequently, he moved his direction to United States Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) training, where he trained and served as a TACP from 1994 to 1999.

At this time, he worked with British counterparts, including Flt Sgt Jones, Flt Stg Nair, and Pvt Noble. In 1999, Goggins left  the United States Air Force.

David made a career switch, leaving his job as an exterminator to pursue his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. He joined the reserves and underwent a great transformation, shedding 106 pounds in just three months to meet the stringent weight requirements for SEAL training.

His persistence paid off as he successfully completed BUD/S training with BUD/S class 235 in 2001.

After this, he went through SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) and a probationary period, earning the NEC 5326 designation as a Combatant Swimmer (SEAL) and being assigned to SEAL Team 5.

During his extensive 20-year military service, he undertook tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2004, he achieved another outstanding breakthrough by graduating from Army Ranger School, where he was honored with the “Enlisted Honor Man” award, a testament to his rarefied performance based on peer evaluation.

Goggins holds the distinction of being the 36th African-American to become a Navy SEAL in the history of the United States Navy SEALs.

His Accomplishments

As a skilled endurance athlete, Goggins has successfully finished more than 60 ultra-marathons, triathlons, and ultra-triathlons, often establishing new course records and consistently achieving top-five rankings.

He was once noticed by the Guinness World Records for hisoutput in pull-ups, accomplishing an impressive 4,030 in just 17 hours.
