David Goggins is a former American Navy SEAL, an ultramarathon runner, triathlete, ultra distance cyclist, public speaker and author of two memoirs. He is also a renowned motivational speaker.

Goggins was born to Jackie Goggins and Trunnis. He had a quite challenging time whilst growing up. He was a victim of abuse and prejudice earlier in his life. The motivational speaker also grew up in poverty.

In the early 1980s, David lived in Williamsvile, New York. Goggins made mention of his struggles back in school. He was enrolled in a small Catholic School.

He explained how he was constantly subject to racism during his time at school. David Goggins talked about how a student sprayed ‘nigger’ on his car when he was 16 years old.

Career

Goggins initially sought to enlist in the United States Air Force Pararescue and began training for it. However, during this training, he received a diagnosis of sickle cell trait, leading to his temporary removal from the program.

Consequently, he shifted his focus to United States Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) training, where he trained and served as a TACP from 1994 to 1999.

During this time, he collaborated with British counterparts, including Flt Sgt Jones, Flt Stg Nair, and Pvt Noble. In 1999, Goggins made the decision to leave the United States Air Force.

David made a career shift, leaving his job as an exterminator to pursue his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. Initially, he joined the reserves and underwent a remarkable transformation, shedding 106 pounds in just three months to meet the stringent weight requirements for SEAL training.

His dedication paid off as he successfully completed BUD/S training with BUD/S class 235 in 2001.

Following this, he went through SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) and a probationary period, earning the NEC 5326 designation as a Combatant Swimmer (SEAL) and being assigned to SEAL Team 5.

During his extensive 20-year military service, Goggins undertook tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2004, he achieved another significant milestone by graduating from Army Ranger School, where he was honored with the “Enlisted Honor Man” award, a testament to his exceptional performance based on peer evaluation.

Notably, Goggins holds the distinction of being the 36th African-American to become a Navy SEAL in the history of the United States Navy SEALs.

As a highly skilled endurance athlete, Goggins has successfully finished more than 60 ultra-marathons, triathlons, and ultra-triathlons, often establishing new course records and consistently achieving top-five rankings.

He was once recognized by the Guinness World Records for his exceptional performance in pull-ups, accomplishing an impressive 4,030 in just 17 hours.

Additionally, he is a highly in-demand public speaker, sharing his experiences and insights with various audiences.
