Sad news reaching our desk has it that a man has allegedly strangled His Pregnant Wife To Death. On Thursday, March 2, 2023, an unfortunate incident occurred in Ezi-Ogwugwu, Otolo-Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the couple had gotten married in August the previous year, and the wife, Ebere nee Uzuegbunam, was a few months pregnant before the incident.
The suspect was summoned by his in-laws in Obiuno community in Otolo Nnewi. He admitted the crime of strangling his wife after an argument ensued between them. He confessed to slapping and hitting her from the gate to the house.
The suspect eventually strangled her in a fit of rage. This strangle from the man was his response to his pregnant wife’s refusal to open the gate after he had knocked on returning home.
The suspect further claimed that he never expected that such actions would lead to her death. He added that he was filled with fear and confusion. Consequently, he abandoned the corpse and sought advice from a few people. It was later in the evening that his mother reached out to his wife’s family members.
According to a source close to the family the couple had been involved in arguments. However, this was unknown to the wife’s family members.
On the day of the incident, the deceased family received a call from the suspect’s mother. They were informed that their daughter had slumped and appeared to be dead.
The deceased’s family members hurried to their in-law’s residence at Ezi-Ogwugwu.
At the hospital, the doctor on duty confirmed that the deceased was dead after a medical check.
The family members of the deceased then took the body to another hospital, St. Felix Okolo Hospital, Nnewi. The doctor there also declared her dead.
