There has been alleged claims recently about the intentions of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to cancel the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which is administered every year to Junior High School candidates.
WAEC administers the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a standard exam for students completing their Junior High School and moving on to the Senior High School.
The education service has refuted such claims with the message that the Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) for Junior High School pupils is not going to be canceled, as previously reported.
According to GES’s explanation, the BECE will undergo significant change as the organization transitions from an objectives-based to a standards-based curriculum.
The Director General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, dispelled rumors of the BECE’s cancellation during a stakeholder engagement on the grading system hosted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The director stated that the GES will continue with the BECE as planned. They are transitioning from the old objectives-based curriculum to the new standards-based curriculum, and this does not mean that individuals on the standards-based curriculum will not take BECE, this is causing some confusion.
He urged the public not to spread the word that the GES is not working on BECE or is willing to cancel the examination.
