The Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for candidates for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
The announcement, made on August 23, 2025, provides detailed statistics, insights into examination malpractices, and important cautions to candidates and stakeholders via an Official statement.
How to Access the 2025 BECE Results
According to WAEC, results for school candidates will be dispatched to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.
In addition, candidates can also check their results online via the official WAEC website: www.waecgh.org.
For candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled, WAEC advises visiting https://ireg.waecgh.org or clicking the withheld/cancelled button on the results portal homepage. This page will provide reasons for withholding or cancelling the results and guide candidates on the next line of action.
BECE 2025 Statistics
This year, a total of 603,328 candidates sat for the BECE from 20,395 participating schools across Ghana. The figure comprised:
- 297,250 males
- 306,078 females
The examination also catered to candidates with special needs, including:
- 72 with visual impairment
- 239 with hearing impairment
- 161 with other test accommodation needs
The exam was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 2,526 candidates absent.
Examination Malpractices and Sanctions
WAEC revealed that several cases of irregularities were recorded during the examination and marking process. After thorough investigations, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for BECE 2025 approved the following sanctions on August 15, 2025:
- 718 candidates had their subject results cancelled
- 177 candidates had their entire results cancelled
- 1,240 candidates had their subject results withheld
- 93 candidates had their entire results withheld
Additionally, the subject results of candidates from 119 schools were cancelled, while results from 87 schools remain under investigation. The outcome of these investigations will determine whether the withheld results are released or cancelled by September 6, 2025.
WAEC’s Caution to Candidates
WAEC has cautioned candidates, parents, and the general public to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. The Council emphasized that BECE results are secure and can be authenticated through official channels only.
