A tragic incident occurred at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) office in Koforidua. Three technicians were discovered dead at COCOBOD reservoir. The Koforidua Effiduase District Police Command has initiated an investigation into this devastating occurrence.
The victims, known as Mr. Ashie, Octopus, and Jonathan, were part of a team of five technical experts. The PBC workshop employed them to perform maintenance on a fuel reservoir within the COCOBOD premises. The precise details of the incident remain unclear. However, two of their colleagues attempted a rescue operation. This was after one worker entered the reservoir and succumbed to suffocation. Tragically, these two additional workers also lost their lives during this brave but unsuccessful rescue attempt.
Two individuals at the scene and colleagues were present. These witnesses reported the tragic news of the technicians dead at the COCOBOD reservoir.
Dispatched to the site was a dedicated team comprising officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Municipal Secretariat, Effiduase Police Command, Ghana Ambulance Service, and Ghana National Fire Service. Their primary mission was to safely extract the bodies of the victims from the underground tank.
Kankam Twumasi Daniel, the Deputy Municipal Director of NADMO for New Juaben North, confirmed the tragic incident. He stated that the police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting authorities to prioritize a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the technicians’ untimely deaths.
