The management company of the National Service Scheme, NSS has Suspended their Ashanti Regional Director, Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah for Abusing a Nurse.
This suspension, the NSS management stated, is with immediate effect.
The announcement of the suspension was made yesterday at an emergency meeting the Management of the Scheme held with Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah
The Management decision is to allow further investigation into the alleged verbal assault on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the NSS Management has formed a committee comprised of officials from the NSS, the Public Services Commission, and the Ministry of Education to look into the situation and report back to them within a month.
In light of this, Mr. Opoku Mensah is scheduled to testify before the Committee on the following Monday, December 5, 2022.
What caused the NSS Ashanti Regional Director’s Suspension?
Mr. Alex Opoku, the regional director, reportedly attacked a nurse after she accused his daughter, a doctor at the hospital, of intimidating patients. In the recording, Alex Opoku threatens to get the nurse fired using expletives. Kindly listen to the audio below;
The NSS for the Ashanti region, has been on everyone’s lips since since an audio recording of him aggressively harassing a nurse at the Manhyia Government hospital went viral.
On the other hand, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding the director’s dismissal or the start of a strike.
Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the GRNMA Philemon Adu Brempong in a statement gave the government 72 hours to remove the appointee or face industrial action.
It turns out that the management of NSS has not taken action and have declared their intention to investigate the NSS Regional director for Ashanti Region following the suspension.
