The National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) are jointly exploring innovative programmes that will help to create sustainable jobs for the country’s teeming youth.
The initiative forms part of the two state agencies contribution towards addressing unemployment in Ghana.
To firm up the collaboration, the Chief Executive officer of YEA, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, has paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director of NSS, Mr. Osei Assibey in his office to share ideas on the way forward to achieving their target.
The YEA has the mandate to oversee the coordination, supervision and facilitation of employment for the Ghanaian youth while the NSS is mandated to mobilize, recruit, train, deploy and develop Ghanaian graduates of 18 years and above to render mandatory service for a period of one year.
This makes the two agencies critical stakeholders in the development of the youth and harnessing their potential for national development.
As part of the discussions, the two bosses of the state agencies observed that as key stakeholders in youth development, it was important that both parties resolved to form a joint technical group to develop concepts for job creation.
They also pledged their commitment to continue the engagement to expedite the process of concept development for full implementation of the project.
It emerged from the meeting that through the partnership, the YEA and NSS would continue to expand existing modules and device strategies to create more sustainable jobs and opportunities and promote entrepreneurship among graduates.
Mr. Assibey said the collaboration between the two agencies was a step in the right direction as it would go a long way to enhance the government’s quest to provide sustainable jobs for the youth.
He said NSS was ready to fully provide support to the innovative idea to make it see the light of day.
For his part, Mr. Kodua was hopeful that the issues discussed would advance the welfare of the youth.
“We came from the visit genuinely energized about the possibilities for continued engagement.
Actually, being at the NSS allowed us to learn about their deployment modules, interact with their staffs and personnel, and determine where we might partner with them most effectively for both agencies.” Justin Kodua said.
