In a recent development, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s fate is being discussed among NPP MPs, prompting calls for his removal.
Last year, over 100 NPP MPs created controversy by demanding the dismissal of the president’s cousin. Despite Ghana’s $3 billion IMF bailout approval, the Minister continues to hold his post.
Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized the need for the entire caucus to make a collective decision on the matter. He also added they plan to engage with the president if necessary.
Eugene Boakye Antwi, MP for Subin constituency, highlights that only the President has the power to dismiss Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, while their role as MPs is to expose the minister’s shortcomings.
The MPs eagerly await communication from President Akufo-Addo regarding the way forward and look forward to a meeting with the majority caucus.
As it remains now only the future holds what Ken Ofori-Atta’s fate will be.
