I’ve been renting for 8 years while my ex-wife still occupies my house – Odartey Lamptey

Former Ghanaian youth star, Nii Odartey Lamptey has revealed that he has been a tenant for the past eight years despite being the owner of a seven-bedroom house at East Legon.

According to the former Aston Villa man, he is looking forward to moving into the property after the Court of Appeal in Accra dismissed a petition by his ex-wife (Madam Gloria Appiah) to be granted ownership of the house as compensation after their much-publicised split in 2013.

Odartey told Accra-based Angel FM that he had been traumatised by the split which has at times driven him to tears.

Alimony

Speaking about the divorce, Odartey said the court directed him to pay GH¢200,000 as alimony to Madam Appiah as well as settle her with his four-bedroom house at Dome in addition to a Toyota Venza vehicle.

He stated that he expected the settlement to be amicable till his ex-wife appealed to be granted ownership of the seven-bedroom house.

He said he was grateful to his lawyers for what he hopes would be the conclusion of the legal tussle.

According to him, he is no longer disturbed about the matter because he is motivated by his work and his children.

Odartey owns the Golden Lions Soccer Academy and Glow Lamp International School.

He now has three biological children with his partner, actress Ruweida Yakubu.

Divorce

Odartey Lamptey and his ex-wife got divorced after DNA tests proved that he was not the biological father of their three children.

The matter led to the collapse of their 20-year marriage, but disagreements over compensation led to a protracted legal tussle.

Two years ago, the Appeal’s Court rejected her claim to the East Legon mansion but she filed another case with the hope that the decision would be overturned.

However, for the second time, the court dismissed Madam Appiah’s appeal to own the house.
