Ghana Card won’t be used for 2024 elections – EC

Ghana Card

The Electoral Commission, EC has stated in recent times that the Ghana Card won’t be used for 2024 elections.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has denied rumors that the Ghana Card would replace the Voter ID Card in that country’s upcoming 2024 elections (EC).

During an appearance on the “Let The Citizen Know” series, Deputy Chair of the Commission in charge of Operations Samuel Tettey told the press that the Ghana Card will be used more frequently for continuous registration.

”We’ve also heard rumors that the Ghana Card will be used in the polls in 2024, but these are unfounded. Only individuals who have never before registered to vote will need to present this card in order to do so” he said.

He added that If you successfully register to vote after presenting your Ghana Card, you will be given a voter ID that includes the EC’s identifying information, such as the codes for your region, district, electoral area, and polling station.

Samuel Tettey has reportedly asked the National Identification Authority (NIA) to speed up the procedures for issuing national ID cards to all Ghanaians over the age of 18. This was reported by 3News.

He then urged key interest groups and political parties to get their members to quickly register for their Ghana Cards.
