The double-track system will not be adopted this year, according to the Ministry of Education, as first-year Senior High School SHS1 students report to school on Monday, April 4, 2022.
About the Double Track System
The double-track system was implemented in 2018 in order to alleviate traffic in schools and make place for the anticipated rise in the number of Junior High School (JHS) pupils enrolling in Senior High Schools.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, said in a press briefing on June 2021 that it would take two to three years to end the system.
Education Ministry’s Announcement
However, in an interview with Citi News, the Education Ministry’s Public Relations Officer Kwasi Kwarteng stated that the double-track system will not be implemented this year since appropriate preparations had been made to welcome first-year students.
According to him, we won’t be seeing the division of children into two groups inside a single year group i.e. the double track system, with one group attending school for a period of time, then leaving and the other group attending. He added Infrastructure development has now progressed significantly.
GETFund, he claimed, was responsible for the completion of 1,400 infrastructure projects that has gone a long way to enable the government suspend the double-track system.
As a result, Kwasi Kwarteng urged candidates who are finding problems with their BECE Placement to be calm, as the resolution centers remain open to serve them.
