Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician and TV personality Akosua Agyapong has voiced concern about a growing trend among Ghanaian celebrities who avoid unions within the entertainment industry.
In a recent discussion on Graphic Showbiz, she expressed her worry. She opined that celebrities partnering outside the profession tend to have more successful marriages.
Akosua Agyapong pointed out that celebrity couples often face difficulties due to the shared limelight. This, she says, leads to issues of distrust, anxieties, and doubts.
Having experienced this firsthand in her previous marriage to Highlife performer Amandzeba, she highlighted that the nature of the entertainment profession could exacerbate these challenges.
“When both partners do the same work, trust issues arise. The constant public attention makes doubts inevitable, regardless of trust,” she emphasized.
Agyapong suggested that marrying outside the industry might foster more secure and enduring partnerships. She also added that the continuous public scrutiny within the spotlight could impact trust among celebrity couples.
“I have observed for a very long time that celebrities enjoy their marriages and also stay together for a longer period because their partners are not also in the limelight.”
She made examples such as Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Okyeame Kwame, Edem, Kojo Antwi and Kojo Antwi to buttress her above statement.
