The U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana has multiple job vacancies in the Consular and Regional Security offices. These roles offer the chance to support U.S. operations in Ghana through visa services, security investigations, and protection of personnel.

Job Vacancies at the U.S. Embassy in Ghana

1. Consular Investigations Assistant 

This role involves conducting detailed investigations related to nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications, diversity visas, and American citizen services, including field visits to verify documents and interview applicants, as well as preparing detailed reports for consular officers. The position requires building relationships with government officials, schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and other institutions, evaluating data for fraud trends, and providing fraud-prevention training to consular staff. Candidates must have at least two years of investigative experience, knowledge of Ghanaian civil and customary laws, immigration laws, and social conditions, strong analytical, communication, and computer skills, and the ability to work independently while prioritizing tasks. Fluency in English and proficiency in MS Office is required. The position may involve occasional travel within Ghana, is not supervisory. Applicants must have at least two years of post-secondary education in fields such as business, law, psychology, international relations, or economics.

2. Visa Assistant (Non-Immigrant/Immigrant)

This permanent, public trust position is open to all interested applicants and requires completion of high school. The incumbent performs a wide range of consular duties, including data entry, document review, visa printing, passport manifesting, case management, and customer service for a diverse applicant base. Responsibilities include scheduling interviews, preparing Security Advisory Opinion requests, ensuring proper documentation for immigrant and nonimmigrant visas, monitoring case progress, identifying potential fraud trends, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders such as applicants, petitioners, and U.S. immigration agencies.

3. Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI)

This post involves conducting security investigations, coordinating with local law enforcement, and supporting the protection of post personnel and visiting U.S. officials. The FSNI will perform background checks on potential employees and contractors, gather and analyze threat intelligence, assist in criminal or accident-related matters, and maintain liaison with government and private security contacts. The position also includes administrative duties, occasional translation, and travel within Ghana to facilitate VIP visits. Applicants must have at least two years of university studies, a minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement, military, private security, or investigation, proficiency in English and Twi, knowledge of local laws and investigative techniques, and strong interpersonal, analytical, and computer skills. A valid driver’s license is required
