Ghana Cement (GHACEM) is seeking to hire for the career of Legal Counsel West African Region – English speaking Countries.

The Work:

Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice and counsel on a wide range of issues, including contracts, permitting, land issues, labor, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and litigation matters.
Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, agreements, and legal documents, that arise from daily business of WAR operations, ensuring they align with Heidelberg Materials Group policies and objectives.
Compliance: Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting operations in WAR and ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements.
Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with business activities and develop strategies to mitigate potential liabilities.
Reporting: quarterly legal reports in respect of ongoing legal matters for WAR; establishment and regular update of litigation list.
Litigation Management: Manage all legal disputes and litigation matters involving the companies within WAR, including liaising with external counsels as necessary.
Liaising with External Counsels: In coordination with Area legal function collaborate with external legal firms or specialized counsel when complex legal issues arise.

Jurist Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; Master of Law degree is a plus.
Admission to the bar in Ghana; admission to the bar in Liberia is a plus.
10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with 2-3 years of in-house legal experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of buildings materials regulations and laws in Ghana and Liberia is a plus.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, make sound judgments, and handle confidential information.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
The position requires fluency in English.
