The 2025 OIST Internship Program is starting in Fall 2025. As a research intern, you will have a working experience in a research environment.
Slots for this initiative are always given out twice in a year, therefore even if you miss this chance, you still have an option do another submission. Selection is high-stake and depends on suitability of intended research, scholastic record, available funding and space.
Entry Standards:
- Everyone applicant is mandated to pay a nun-refundable amount of 3000 Japanese Yen (JPY) as application fee
- Students currently enrolled in their last two years of their bachelor’s degree or any year of a master’s program are eligible
- Both undergraduate and master’s graduate can send their candidacy
- Continuing students but have the approval of their various schools
- You academic background should match that of the unit in which you want to work
- When accepted into the program, research interns from Japanese universities must plan and provide their own insurance.
What’s In It For You:

Essential:
- Chosen candidates should make sure to go with at least two months’ living expenses in cash (the average cost of staying there is 50,000 JPY)
- Convert all your money to the Japanese yen before landing there as you might struggle converting your own country’s currency
