Eden Hazard: The player with the most expensive injuries

Injuries can ruin seasons. Of course, they are part of the game, but losing players is always bad for the structuring of a squad, especially if they are key components within the team.

However, when a player remains on the sidelines for longer than expected, it can entail a high cost for any club.

According to a study carried out by Betiton Sports, this amounts to millions within Europe’s five major leagues.

The research assesses the period from April 2020-March 2021 and showed that Real Madrid were the most affected club, spending almost 45 million euros on the salaries of injured players.

And it is not surprising that Eden Hazard tops the list. Last season, he was injured for a total of 252 days, with a weekly wage of some 475,000 euros a week – leading to losses of 17 million euros.

Philippe Coutinho was second in the list with 233 days injured, costing Barcelona almost 16 million euros. As a result, Barcelona occupy third on the list of clubs who have spent the most on injured players, with just over 40 million euros spent.

Neymar and Paul Pogba were third and fourth, with 95 and 230 days out injured respectively.

By country, the clubs that have spent the most were Manchester United, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
