Ghana Army Recruitment for Armed Forces

This article provides a comprehensive overview of the various branches and categories posted by the Ghana Armed Forces, as well as the qualifications required to serve in each role as part of the current nationwide recruitment. Category A of the recruitment process entails the various qualifications for Ghana Army trades as stated below:

Category A- Army Branches & Their Qualifications:

General Eligibility

1. Eligible applicant must:

a. Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.

b. Be of good character.

c. Be not less than 18 years of age and not more than 25 years for Non – Tradesmen and not more than 27 years for Tradesmen
by 30 December 2025.

d. Be medically fit by Armed Forces standards.

e. Be not married.

f. Be not bonded.

g. Be of minimum height of 1.68m (5’6″) for males and 1.57m (5’2″) for females. For Military Police only; be of a minimum height of 1.75m (5’9″) for males and 1.70m (5’7″) for females.

h. Must have six (6) Credits (Not less than Grade C6) at WASSCE including English and Mathematics.

i. Have six passes (Up to Grade D7 for Army Candidates in English and Mathematics and other 4 passes and grade C6 for Navy and Airforce in all subjects) at WASSCE or the requisite credit/passes in respective trade qualifications from GES at Intermediate or Advance Level.

Special Requirements

All applicants for the various sections must fulfill the general eligibility criteria in addition to the requirements for the various divisions below:

a. Infantry/Armour/Artillery/ Military Police

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have 6 Passes at WASSCE including English and Mathematics.

b. Pay Corps

  • Candidate should have studied Accounting or Business in SHS and sat for the final exams
  • RSA Stage Ill in Accounting
  • Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting Option).
  • HND Accounting.

c. Engineer Corps.

Applicants must have Technical, Vocational, Diploma or Certificate in any of the following

1. Electricians.

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Electrical Installation.
  • COVET Certificate II in Electrical Works.
  • City and Guilds Certificate in Electrical Engineering Electrical Engineering Technology Part I (GES).
  • NVTI Candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency IV Certificate I/ Certificate II.

2. Plant Mechanics/Fitters

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Plant Mechanic/Fitting
  • GES Certficate in Plant Mechanic/Fitting.
  • COVET Certificate II in Plant Mechanic/Fitting.
  • City and Guild Certificate in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • NVTI. Candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency IV Certificate // Certficate II.

3. Survey Assistants

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Surveying.
  • COTVET Certificate Il in Surveying Certificate in Surveying (GSSM)

4. Painting/Sign writing

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Painting/Sign Writing
  • COVET Certificate Il in Painting/Sign Writing
  • City and Guilds Certificate in Painting/Sign Writing
  • NVTI. Candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency Il/ Certificate // Certificate II.

5. Plumbers & Masons

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Plumbing/Masonry.
  • COVET Certificate II in Plumbing/Masonry.
  • City and Guilds Certificate in Plumbing/Masonry.
  • NVTI. Candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency INCertificate V Certificate II.

6. Wood Construction Technology (Carpentry)

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Wood Construction Technology.
  • GES or COVET Certificate I in Wood Construction Technology.
  • City and Guilds Certificate in Carpentry/Joinery
  • NVTI Candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency IV Certificate // Certificate II,

7. Welder & Steel Bender.

GES Intermediate Certificate in Welding and Fabrication Technology.

  • GES Certificate in Welding and Fabrication Technology.
  • COVET Certificate Il in Welding and Fabrication Technology. iv. NVTI. Candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency Il/ Certificate // Certificate II.

8. Topo/Architectural Draughtsman.

  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Architectural Drawing
  • COVET Certificate Il in Architectural Drawing.

9. Plant Operators (Grader, Excavator, Dozer, Backhoe, Wheel Loader, Low Bed and Compactor Roller).

GES Intermediate Certificate in any of the plants stated above.

COTVET Certificate II in any of the plants stated above.

NVTI candidates must have 6 passes in JHS and Proficiency II/ Certificate I/Certificate II.

d.  Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps (EME)

You must have Technical, Vocational, Diploma or Certificate in any of the following:

 1. Automotive Technicians

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Automobile Engineering.
  • City and Guilds Certificate/Diploma in Automobile Engineering. i CTVET/GES Motor Vehicle Technician (Intermediate, Part I, Part II and Part III.
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II in Automobile Engineering and Heavy Duty & Diesel Mechanics

2. Welding and Fabrication Technicians

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Welding and Fabrication Engineering
  • CTVET/GES Advance Craft (Advanced Welding). i CTVET/NATEX Certificate I in Welding and Fabrication Technology.

3.  Office Machine Technician.

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Office machine Mechanics.
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate Il in Computer System.

4. Driver Recovery Technician

  • Should possess at least a valid Driving Licence Class B with any of the under listed certificates).
  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Driver and Recovery Engineering.
  • City and Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Automobile Engineering.
  • CTVET/GES Motor Vehicle Technician (Intermediate, Part I, Part Il and Part III).
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate Il in Automobile Engineering

5. Machining Technician/Weapon Technician.

  • CTVET/GES Mechanical Engineering Technician I.
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II in Mechanical Engineering
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II Electronics Engineering.

6. Automobile Electricals/Electronics Technician

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Automobile Electricals and Electronics Engineering.
  • City & Guilds Certificate in Auto Electricals/Electronics. i CTVET/GES Motor Vehicle Technician (Intermediate, Part 1, Part Il and Part III).
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate Il in Automobile Engineering

7. Biomedical Technician

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Biomedical and Electro Medical Engineering.
  • CTVET/GES Radio, TV and Electronics Part I.
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II in Electronics Engineering.

8. Upholstery Technician

  • CTVET/GES Advance Craft (General Tailoring Advanced).
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II in Upholstery Design and construction

9. Hot and Cold Technician

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Condition Engineering.
  • City & Guilds Certificate/Diploma in HVAC HI. CTVET/GES Refrigeration Mechanic Part II.
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II in Refrigeration and Air Condition Technology.

e.  Signal Corps

1. System Operators General

  • SSCE/WASSCE passes in Mathematics and Science or have a technical background).

2. Network Technicians

At least one of the Diploma/Certificates below:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)/Cisco
  • Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).
  • Software Engineering Network Engineering.
  • Telecom Engineering.
  • Server Management.
  • Ethical Hacking
  • Cyber Security.

3. Hardware Technicians.

Have a Diploma/Certificate in

  • COMPTIA A+.
  • Networking Engineering.
  • COMPTIA N+
  • Telecom Engineering.

4. Radio Technician

Diploma or Certificates in:

  • Telecom Technician (part Il or part III).
  • Electronic/Electronic Technicians (Part II or Part III).
  • Radio Servicing Technician.
  • RF Engineer/ RF Technician.
  • Power System Technician. vi. Microwave Technician.

5. Telephone Technician.

Possess a certificate or diploma in one of the following:

  •  Telecom Technician (Part II or Part III).
  • Repairs/Maintenance of Equipment.
  • Electronic/Electronic Engineering.
  • Fibre Optic Technology
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (VOIP).

 

f. Information Technology (IT).

Diploma or Certificate in any of the following:

  • Network Administration. N+ Certificate from a recognized Institution including knowledge in LINUX/Windows Server 2003, 2008 and above.
  • Database Administration. Certification in My SQL, SQL, and Oracle from a recognised Institution.
  • Computer Programming. Certification in VB, C++ and Java from a recognized school.
  • Web Designing. Certification in HTML, PHP, CSS, CMS, Adobe and Photoshop from an accredited Institution.

g. Supply and Transport Corps

  1. Drivers: Professional Driving Licence Class B. (Minimum Class B).
  2. Supply Clerks/Storeman: Certificate in computer software applications (Word, Excel, Access Corel Drawing etc) from an accredited institution.
  3. Movement: Diploma/Certificate in Freight Forwarding/Air, Travel and Tour from a recognized school.
  4. Fireman/Woman: Certificate in Fire Fighting from National Fire Service plus professional Driving License class B
  5. Cooks: HND in Catering/Diploma in Catering/NVTI Cert & Il/Proficiency II.

h. Public Relations Corps

1.  Information Assistants

  • Diploma/Certificate (not less than one year continuous study) from an accredited institution in Journalism, Public Relations.
  • English Language /Literature.
  • Broadcasting.
  • Communication Studies or Photo journalism .

2. Photographers

  • Diploma/Certificate (not less than one year continuous study) from an accredited institution in general photography.

3. Cinematographer

  • Diploma/Certificate (not less than one year continuous study) from a recognized institution in Fine Art, Film Editing, Camera Work, Lighting.
  • Film Directing, Sound, Graphic Design or Animation.

i. Ordnance Corps

  1. Storeman/Woman: Diploma in Business Studies and HND in Purchasing and Supply
  2. Ammunition Technicians: In addition to General Eligibility applicants must have 6 passes at WASSCE and must be a science student.
  3. Tailors/Textiles & Cobblers/ Leather Works: GES Intermediate Certificate / COVET Certificate II / NVTI Grade I & II

j. Clerk General Duties

  • RSA Stage IIII in secretarial duties and credit in typing.
  • Typist Grade I and II Certificate from Government Secretarial School.
  • Stenographer Grade II Certificate.
  • DBS (Secretarial Option).
  • Certificate in computer software applications (Word, Excel, Access, Corel Drawing etc) from a recognized Institution.

k. Education Corps

  1. Teachers Post-Secondary Certificate A
  2. Teachers Post-Secondary Certificate A (French)
  3. Diploma in Education
  4. Diploma in Education (French)

  • Log on to the recruitment portal @ http://apply.mil.gh with any of the following browsers;

  • Read through the entry requirements thoroughly.

Page 2: Upload a scanned copy of your passport sized photograph of dimension (200 x 180 pixels), enter a valid e-mail address, personal mobile phone number in the format (233244123456) and enter any other required data. NB: Each scanned document (Passport picture, WASSCE, Trade/Technical certificate,) to be uploaded, shall not exceed 1(One) Megabyte.

c. Page 3: Enter the results of WASSCE/SSCE and BECE including TWO required core subjects on your Certificate, that is; CORE MATHEMATICS AND CORE ENGLISH. Enter your WASSCE Index number, WASSCE results slip serial number, and BECE Index number. Upload only scanned copies of the following: WASSCE or Trade Certificate. NB: Each scanned document (Passport picture, WASSCE, Trade/Technical certificate,) to be uploaded, shall not exceed 1(One) Megabyte and should be in PDF format only.

  • Click on the Preview Button to see a summary page of all data provided. Read through this page carefully and click on the back button, if there are any modifications to be made.
  • Click on the submit button and expect an instant e-mail and text message, which includes your unique system generated Alpha Numeric Identification Number.
  • Print and keep a copy of the generated report as you will be required to present it, if you are Shortlisted. However, if you lose your copy of the report, go back to the recruitment portal, click on the Check Details Tab, enter your unique identification number sent to you by SMS/E-Mail and order a re-print.
  • Closing Date. Closing date for submission of all online applications is Friday 31 October 2025.

Administration

  • Transportation/Feeding/Accommodation. Applicants are responsible for their own transportation, feeding and accommodation throughout the recruitment exercise.
