MP never donated or offered rice to any youth group in Damongo – Constituency Chairman clarifies

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Damongo has dispelled information circulating on social media that the MP for the constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has donated bags of rice to the youth of Busunu in the West Gonja Municipality.

This comes after a video captured some angry youth rejecting some bags of rice alleged to have been sent to them by Mr Jinapor or the celebration of Eid Ul-Adha went viral.

While reloading the goods back into the truck, the youth chanted, “We need jobs, not rice”, and ordered the team out of the community.

But the Damongo NPP Chairman, Adam Braimah, in a statement, said the MP only donated to Chief Imams and traditional leaders of the area.

Thus, no youth group has rejected any gift from Mr Jinapor as being purported on both social and mainstream media.

“The MP never donated or offered rice to any youth or youth groups in the constituency and, thus, no such rice could have been rejected. There was, therefore, no such rejection since no youth or group of young persons were given rice, let alone for it to be rejected.

“As is customary across the country during Eid, the festival of sacrifice and generosity, our MP made donations to Imams, Chiefs and Queen Mothers only,” he clarified.

Touching on the cry for jobs by the youth, Mr Braimah said the Damongo MP, who doubles as Lands and Natural Resources Minister, recognises a lot more work remains to be done to bring the issue of youth unemployment to a satisfactory situation.

Thus, he pleaded with the constituency’s youth to give Mr Jinapor some time to meet that demand.

“Hon. Jinapor remains focused on delivering on his mandate as the representative of the good and dignified people of Damongo Constituency, just as he is committed to continuing to contribute to the government’s efforts in the realization of the aspirations of the Ghanaian people,” he stated.

Damongo Constituency.

New Patriotic Party in the Damongo Constituency’s attention has been drawn to a video that suggests that some youth of Busunu rejected rice from their MP.

Firstly, the MP never donated or offered rice to any youth or youth groups in the constituency and, thus, NO such rice could have been rejected. There was, therefore, no such rejection since no youth or group of young persons were given rice, let alone for it to be rejected.

As is customary across the country during Eid, the festival of sacrifice and generosity, our MP made donations to Imams, Chiefs, and Queen Mothers only.

While it is a fact that the government of President Akufo-Addo has made significant efforts in resolving the age-old youth unemployment issue in our country, Damongo Constituency and Busunu inclusive, Jinapor recognises that a lot more work remains to be done to bring the issue of youth unemployment to a satisfactory situation. It will require appreciable time and consistent action as is currently being done.
