The Minister for Employment and Labor relations, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah present at the 6th Quadrennial National Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) stated that the public sector will receive an increment of 7% in salary this year 2022.

As stated by the labor Commission, this is Good News as Ghanaian Government Workers are to get 7% Increment in salary.

The minister stated that In the peak of the pandemic, they were able to safeguard the work of every public sector worker in Ghana including teachers.

He further stated that they had to also negotiate with the leadership of organized labour and in the process, they agreed to be modest in their request on the national kitty and that is how they ended at the 4 percent.

Still on the topic, Ignatius Baffour Awuah added that they had agreed that coming to this year, the four percent will no longer exist and that they are going to give workers a seven percent increment in their salary.

Background…

It can be recalled that last year 2021, the  government increased salaries of public sector employees by four percent. This is a decision which was rejected by the teachers Union because they were not satisfied with it for obvious reasons.

By rejecting the four Percent, they demanded for 15% increment instead.

Now that Ghanaian Government Workers are To Get 7% Salary Increment, as stated by the Labour Commission, we anticipate the reaction of the Teachers Union.
