This article provides a simplified guide to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Short Service Commission for Army, Navy and Air Force. Read all the information below to fully understand the various positions open and their eligibility criteria.
Available Roles and Specific Qualifications Needed To Join GAF As A Short Service Commission Officer
1. Engineer – Combat Support (Army Only)
Prospective cadets must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the relevant field. Applicant must be a registered member of the requisite Professional Body and must be in good standing with a minimum probationary status in any of the following
- Master’s in Architecture
- Civil Engineering with a Master’s in Sewage Engineering
- Civil Engineering with a Master’s in Structural Engineering Mechanical Engineering with a Master’s in Building Services.
2. Signal/Communication and Information Systems – Combat Support
You must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in any of the following:
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- Robotics Engineering
- Material Sciences Engineering
- Geomatic Engineering
- Cyber Security
- In addition to the above, certificates in any of the following professional courses below will be an added advantage:
- Drone Piloting/Data Analysis
- Geographical Information
- Radio Transmission/RF Engineering
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE)
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

3. Electrical and Mechanical Engineers – Combat Service Support (Army and Air Force Only)
- Electrical/Electronic Engineers: You must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in any of the following:
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- Biomedical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineers. In addition to the general eligibility criteria, applicants must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have a Master’s Degree from an accredited University/Institution in any of the following:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Material Engineering
- Agricultural Engineering
- Automobile Engineering
4. Supply and Transport – Combat Service Support
Prospective applicants for the Supply and Transport should not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and hold a Master’s Degree in any of the following:
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Ports and Shipping Administration
- Procurement and Supply Chain Management
- Food Science and Technology
- Food and Nutrition
- Fire and Disaster Management
- Should be a member of CILTS & CIPS
5. Ordnance (Combat Service Support) – EOD Inclusive
Applicants must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have a Master’s Degree from an accredited University in:
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Publishing Studies
- Chemistry/Biochemistry/Physics and Chemical Engineering
- Procurement
- Fashion Design/Textiles
- Communication Design
- Estate/Facility Management
6. Technical Branch (Navy Only)
Candidates must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have the following:
- MSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field
- Two (2) years post-graduate experience in the industry.
7. Administration Branch (Navy Only)
Candidates must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have the following:
- MA in Gender Studies
- Two (2) years post-graduate experience in the industry.
8. Engineering Branch (Air Force Only)
Applicants must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have the following
- Mechanical
- Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Agric Engineering, or a related field.
- Two (2) years experience in the industry
- Arionics
- Masters in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Two (2) years experience in the industry.
9. Pay Corps
Candidates should not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have the following:
- An Accounting or Finance related course
- Must be a fully qualified member of ACCA, ICA or CIMA
- Applicants with the above qualifications in addition to a qualification in ICT have an added advantage.
10. Public Relations
You must not be more than 30 years by 31 March 2026 and have Master’s degree in any of the following from an accredited University with 3 years working experience:
- Fine Arts
- Multimedia Production
- Communication Design
- Production Designs
- Motion Picture Photography
- Editing
- Languages
- French
- Spanish
- Communication Studies
- Public Relations
- Journalism
11. Education Corps
Have a Master’s Degree from an accredited University/Institution In Language Translation/ Interpretation in French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, German and Chinese.
12. Legal
In addition to the general eligibility criteria, applicants must not be more than 35 years by 31 March 2026 and must have all of the following:
- Degree in Law from a recognised university or equivalent professional Institution.
- Called to the Ghana Bar
- Completed Pupillage
- Applicants must have a minimum of one (1) year work experience.
13. Band
In addition to the general eligibility criteria, applicants must have the following:
- BA/BEd in Music
- Appreciable knowledge in composition/orchestration/ conducting
- Ability to play at least one musical instrument
- Ability to translate and transcribe music.
- Applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026.
14. Agriculture Extension Officers
You must have a Master’s Degree from an accredited University/ Institution in the following:
- Agriculture
- Agricultural Extension
- Agricultural Education
- Agricultural Economics/Agronomy
- Horticulture
- Animal Science
- Soil Science
- Crop Science
15. Physical Training Instructors
- Have a Masters in Physical Education or related field from an accredited institution.
- Medical and Dental Specialists. In addition to general eligibility require-ments, applicant must not be more than 40 years of age by 31 March 2026 for Medical and Dental Specialists and must have all of the following:
- MB ChB/MD/DDS/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Relevant post-graduate qualification to the level of Membership/Fellowship or its equivalent from an accredited College.
- Registration of additional qualification with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana)
- Permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana) and be in good standing.
16. Medical Officers
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 35 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have all of the following:
- MB ChB/MD degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Permanent registration or with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana) and in good standing.
- At least one (1) year post-permanent registration work experience is an added advantage
17. Dental Surgeons
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 35 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have all of the following:
- DDS/BDS degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana) and in good standing.
- At least one (1) year post-permanent registration work experience is an added advantage.
18. Veterinary Surgeons
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 35 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have all of the following:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Permanent registration with the Veterinary Council (Ghana) and in good standing.
- At least one (1) year post-permanent registration work experience is an added advantage.
19. Pharmacists
In addition to general eligibility requirements,’applicant must ot be more than 33 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have all of the following:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree from an accredited institution
- Must be in good standing with the Pharmacy Council, Ghana At least one (1) year post-permanent registration work experience is an added advantage.
20. Specialized/Specialist Nurses
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 33 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have all of the following:
- Post-RGN BSc degree/ Membership/ Fellowship in any of the following nursing specialties: Critical Care, ENT, Peri-Operative, Emergency Care, Pediatrics, Ophthalmic, Nephrology, Hematology, Oncology and other specialties.
- Must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
- At least one (I) year post-permanent registration working experience
21. Nursing Tutors
- In addition to general eligiblity requirements, applicant must have either:
- PhD in Nursing/Midwifery from an accredited institution and must not be more than 38 years of age by 31 March 2026 OR
-
- MPhil in Nursing/Midwifery or MSc in Nursing/Midwifery with ostgraduate diploma/certificate in Education from an accredited institution and must not be more than 35 years of age by 31 March 2026
- All must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana
- Membership/Fellowship with Ghana/West Africa College of Nursing is an added advantage.
22. Nursing Officers
- In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree in Nursing from an accredited Institution.
- A Diploma in Nursing (RGN) with at least one (1) year post-permanent registration practice is an added advantage
- Should be in good standing with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana.
23.Veterinary Nursing Officers
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have
- BSc degree in Veterinary Nursing from an accredited Institution with at least one (1) year post-permanent registration practice;
- Must be in good standing with the Registered Veterinary Nurses Association of Ghana and licensed by the Veterinary Council (Ghana).
24. Health Services Administrators
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have
- A Bachelor of Sclence/Master’s degree in Administration (Health Services Option) from an accredited Institution and must have completed the mandatory one-year Housemanship/National Service as a Health Services Administrator and be a registered member in good standing with the Association of Health Services Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG).
25. Clinical/Health Psychologists
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must have either:
- PhD in Clinical Psychology degree from an accredited Institution and must not be more than 38 years of age by 31 March 2026 OR
- MPhil/MSc Clinical Psychology degree from an accredited Institution plus one (1) year working experience in & recognized institution as a Clinical/ Health Psychologist and must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026.
- All must be in good standing with the Ghana Psychological Council.
26. Radiographers
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree in Radiography and should have practiced for at least one (1) year post-permanent registration as a Radiographer. Applicant must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
27. Sonographer
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree In Sonography plus at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration as a Sonographer. Applicant must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
28. Respiratory Therapists
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree in Respiratory Therapy plus at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration in a recognized health factlity. Applicant must be In good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
29. Certified Registered Anaesthetists (CRA)
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must have either:
- BSc degree in Anaesthesia from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years working experience post-permanent registration in a health facility as a CRA and must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 OR
- BSc degree in Anaesthesia with an Advanced Diploma in Nurse Anaesthesia with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration and must not be more than 33 years of age by 31 March 2026. (MDC) of Ghana.
- All must be in good standing with the Medical and Dental Council
30. Environmental Health Officers
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree in Public Health (Environmental Health option) from an accredited institution with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration. Applicant must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
31. Physiotherapists
In addition to general eligibility reguirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree in Physlotherapy plus at least one (1) year working experience in an accredited health facility and be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
32. Dieticians
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a BSc degree with at least a one (1) year working experience in an accredited Institution and be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
33. Biomedical Scientists
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (DMLS) degree from an accredited institution plus at least one (1) year working experience as a Biomedical Scientist in a Medical Laboratory facility. Applicant must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
34. Clinical Audiologists
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must have either:
- BSc degree in Audiology from an accredited Institution with at least one (1) year working experience post-permanent registration in a health facility as a Clinical Audiologist and must not be more than 30 years of age by 31 March 2026 OR
- MSc degree In Audiology from an accredited institution and must not be more than 33 years of age by 31 March 2026.
- All must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
35. Speech Therapists
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicant must not be more than 33 years of age by 31 March 2026 and must have an MSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy/ Communication Disorders from an accredited Institution. Applicant must have at least one (1) year working experience post-national service as a Speech Therapist and must be in good standing with the Allied Health Professions Council.
36. Chaplains Army/Nary Air Force
In addition to the general eligibility criteria, applicants must not be more than 35 years of age by 31 March 2026 and have the following:
- First Degree not below Second Class Lower (BA) In Theology or Religion from & recognised University/ Theological Seminary/College
- An ordained Minister of the Roman Cathollc, Anglican, Methodist,
Presbyterian, Evangelical Presbyterian, SDA and the Church of Pentecost and be recommended for commissioning Into the Ghana Armed Forces by the Head of the Church. - A minimum of four (4) years pastoral working and probation/internship experience Including two (2) years post ordination service in the pastoral field.
Ability to speak English and at least one of the main Ghanaian languages fluently.
37. Imam (Army/Navy/Air Force)
In addition to the general eligibility criteria, applicants must not be more than 35 years of age by 31 March 2026 and have the following:
- First Degree not below Second Class Lower In Islamic Theology (Religion) from a recognized University, Islamic Institution or College.
- An Alim Phedeen (Islamic Theologian)
- Fluent in both spoken Arabic and English Languages.
- Ability to read and write good Arable and English Languages.
- Practised as Imam for four (4) years and be recognized by a rec-ognised Islamic Religious Institution/Body in Ghana le. The Office of the National Chief Imam, the Ghana Muslim Mission, the Muslim Representative Council, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Islamic Research and the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission.
- Recommended for commissioning Into the Ghana Armed Forces by the Head of a recognized Islamic body in Ghana.
