An Online News Editor is needed At Al Jazeera. AlJazeera.com is looking for an experienced Digital Editor on the West Coast of the United States.
With a global audience of millions, the English website of Al Jazeera Media Network covers the world from a unique angle, with a focus on the human story.
The selected candidate will join our award-winning digital team and will deepen our focus on the Americas, and bridge our 24/7 coverage with our bureaus in Washington, DC, New York City, and Kuala Lumpur, across all online platforms.
You’ll be part of a team pushing boundaries, evolving with and being one step ahead of digital trends.

The Ideal Person:
Based on the West Coast of the US, you have at least seven years of experience in editing and filing high quality content, including news stories, live blog reports, analyses, and breaking news events, for online platforms.
You love editing, writing and everything related to news, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for day-to-day reporting and analyses. You have a good understanding of what makes Al Jazeera’s reporting stand out and subscribe to its human focused mandate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commissions, edits, and plans news, analyses, as well as feature reports accurately, quickly and comprehensively.
- Works closely with Al Jazeera’s head office in Doha on planning and implementation of news coverage across the Americas.
- Deals quickly and efficiently with events as they unfold.
- Provides ideas and suggestions for news coverage on a daily basis and produces off diary content from across the Americas.
- Able to deploy to a variety of fields and situations, including civil unrest, natural disaster and conflict areas.
You will have:
- Experienced editor and writer of news, analyses, and features
- In-depth knowledge of current affairs in the Americas, and a demonstrable network of sources
- Ability to bring authority and clarity to telling complex stories, and do so with digital savvy
- Outstanding language skills, demonstrating precision and fluency in both spoken and written English. Spanish preferred.
- Particular consideration to a candidate who is able to point to a strong record in editing/covering a major news narrative.
- Highly organized and strong team player
- Demonstrates an approach to work that is characterized by commitment, motivation and energy.
