A female vocalist, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, has made known her attempt to participate in a singathon in her bid to set a new record for the longest singing marathon.
She shared a video on her Instagram page showing that the Guinness World Record had approved her application.
The record holder is Sunil Waghmare from India. In March 2012, Sunli achieved this feat by participating in a singing marathon, which lasted for 105 hours.
Afua Asantewaa has hinted that her singathon will consist solely of Ghanaian songs. “I told them I am doing this to project Ghanaian music and nothing else,” she stated.
In the singing marathon, Afua is not to repeat songs. Also, each song should be just about two minutes long.
This means that if she has any chances of breaking Sunli’s record, then she must be prepared to sing over 3200 Ghanaian songs.
In her video, Asantewaa also requested the support of Ghanaians as she prepares to break this somewhat tough record.
By the end of the year, we will know whether we will have our own version of Hilda Baci or not, depending on the outcome of Afua’s attempt.
