The Human Rights Court 1 Division of the High Court in Accra has issued an order compelling Achimota School to accept Tyrone Marhguy, a Rastafarian youngster who wears dreadlocks, as a student at its institution.

In the same vain, the court ordered Achimota School to accept Oheneba Nkrabea, a second Rastafarian pupil, into the institution.

Tyrone Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea, who were admitted into Achimota school proceeded to sue Achimota school after they were denied acceptance because of their dreadlocks.

The bench stated that the refusal of Achimota School to admit Tyrone Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea on grounds that they were wearing dreadlocks amounted to a breach of their fundamental human rights and their right to education. The court therefore, found nothing wrong with the students going to school with dreadlocks.

For this case, Justice Gifty Adjei Addo was the presiding judge. After hearing the case of the plaintiffs and the defendant, she went ahead to grant all seven reliefs sought by the plaintiffs except for the award of cost.
