A tragic helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region has led to the death of the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and seven other authorities.
The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when the aircraft, which reportedly took the Accra–Obuasi route was on it way to Obuasi. Unfortunately, it crashed on hard ground and burst into flames under mysterious circumstances.
According to eyewitnesses, including the Assembly Member for the area, Matthew Baah, the helicopter was already engulfed in flames by the time residents arrived at the crash site where the Defense Minister faced his demise.
Initial reports suggested that four bodies were recovered, but later, the Ghana Armed forces made the confirmation.
A statement by the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the helicopter crash that happened at Adansi Akrofuom had three crew members and five passengers on board, bringing the total number of victims to eight.

The aircraft was reportedly en route to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) — a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, aimed at transforming Ghana’s small-scale mining sector.
The Chief of Staff has officially confirmed the death of Dr. Omane Boamah, who was expected to deliver a keynote address at the event.
While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, poor weather conditions have been cited as a possible contributing factor.
The military also noted that the aircraft went missing from radar shortly before the crash was reported.
This tragic incident marks one of the darkest days in Ghana’s political and aviation history, and tributes are already pouring in from across the country and beyond.
