The Embassy of Denmark in Accra is here with a new career opportunity. The mission is seeking a Communications and Cultural Officer. This position covers press outreach, social media postings, event management as well as educational and cultural exchanges between Denmark and Ghana. It requires a creative and energetic candidate, who pro-actively can strengthen Denmark’s profile in Ghana.

The position holder’s key role will be to enhance the Embassy’s visibility and public engagement. His or her primary responsibility will be to secure continuous communication and tailored outreach.

Key Duties:

  • Identify and prioritise content for the Embassy’s public engagement platforms (social media, website, intranet etc.)
  • Develop audio-visual content of development initiatives for public outreach
  • Ensure timely, tailor-made outreach to the public on key events
  • Build relations with communication colleagues and cultural attaches from other EU embassies and international organizations and participate in relevant networking groups
  • Monitor local and global news of relevance to the Embassy
  • Create a network with Ghanaian journalists and facilitate media sessions, press interviews, etc.
  • Manage cultural projects related to music, performance arts, book launches, etc.
  • Support organisation of high-level visits and public diplomacy events
  • Facilitate study exchanges and visits from students, scholars and academic fellows
  • Assist on other administrative tasks of the Embassy.

Requirements To Secure The Career Opportunity At The Denmark Embassy:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field (i.e. communications, journalism, or similar)
  • Documented experience of developing and delivering successful public communication or public diplomacy events and campaigns
  • Excellent command of English, Danish and French would be advantageous, but not a requirement
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Willingness to develop, improve and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Be a team player while at the same time capable of working independently and taking initiatives pro-actively as well as ensuring timely follow-up.
  • The right candidate must be self-driven with dynamic communication skills to deliver on the Embassy’s public diplomacy ambitions in a rapid changing media landscape.
  • The embassy seeks a SoMe-savy, who possesses exceptional and creative writing skills
  • The candidate must have an eye for audio-visual content and be able to collaborate closely with all teams of the Embassy’s work areas.

Terms of employment

  • Full time contract (40 hours pr. week) under local terms and conditions.
  • 5 weeks paid leave annually combined with a flexible work scheme.
  • Mutual trial period of three months.
  • Based at the Danish Embassy in Accra, Ghana.
  • Salary will be based on the Embassy’s fixed salary scale reflecting qualifications, relevant experience, and proven work-related results.
  • You and your dependant family members will be offered health care insurance including coverage of medical expenses.
  • Employment requires security clearance by Danish Authorities (requires presentation of “No
    Criminal Record”).
  • The position entails approximately one annual trip to Denmark or in the African region for competence development and training.
