MPs do not construct roads - Kyei Mensah-Bonsu
In Ghana, lawmakers make campaign promises to build roads in the hopes that they will later advocate for them when given the chance, although this is not their duty.

The lawmaker for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region has stated without mincing words that Members of Parliament (MPs) do not construct roads.

He simply intimates it is not the job of lawmakers in Ghana to do roads.

In Ghana, lawmakers make campaign promises to build roads in the hopes that they will later advocate for them when given the chance, although this is not their duty.

The Suame MP claimed that only the government is authorized by law to build roads.

“I have never done it”, the MP declared.

“It is because of the general strategy, especially with those of them who want to succeed in becoming Members of Parliament, they will go and tell people that have you seen your MP, he has been there for two terms, he has not been able to facilitate any development project, so vote me in and I will do this, I will do that,” the author said. Not your responsibility.

Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has therefore underscored that MPs do not construct roads.

A group of angry residents chased Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu away from his constituency last month, and he had to be helped into his car by security personnel, simply because they were infuriated by the deplorable state of roads in the constituency.

The legislator was escorted away from the irate artisans after visiting the Suame magazine.
