The Mobile Money (MoMo) Agents Association of Ghana, MMAG has declared its intention to embark on a nationwide strike over the E-Levy tax which was included 2022 budget.
They announced their intention to embark on the strike on Thursday December 23, 2021.
In their submission, they stated that all agents will go on the strike and all outlets will remain closed as well.
Reasons Why MoMo Agents Want To Embark On the Strike
In their statement dated December 19 2021, they attributed their cause for this strike to the proposed 1.75 E-levy tax which many Ghanaians have complained about as harmful to businesses and the standard of living.
The MoMo agents association see this e-levy tax as very regressive and critical to the survival of their businesses.

All MoMo Agents will go on Strike and outlets will remain closed.

Their reason for embarking on this strike exercise is to make things right with regards to the e-levy. According to their statement, if all efforts remain futile, an indefinite action would be taken thereafter.

Recommendation to people who frequently withdraw through Momo.
As the MOMO agents to embark on nationwide strike over e-levy,
- it is recommended that frequent users of Momo try as much as possible to withdraw all the money day May need for sometime before Thursday as no one knows how this is eventually going to end.
- As well, they should try other means to get access to their electronic money eg. Via Banks or through ATM Withdrawals
