Rastafarians in Ghana are infamously associated with smoking marijuana and among others, but Blakk Rasta has revealed he is an exception to this stereotype.
Reggae artiste and entertainment pundit Blakk Rasta has revealed he has never drunk alcohol or smoked in his entire life despite being a strong proponent for the legalisation of marijuana.
Blakk Rasta made this shocking revelation on Giovani Caleb’s Showbiz360 on TV3.
Chances are that the very first thing that comes to mind when you hear of the word ‘rasta’ is marijuana or dreadlocks.
Cannabis, or ganja as it is more generally known among Rastas, is deeply ingrained in the Rastafari movement’s culture and is frequently referred to as the wisdom weed or holy herb.
Contrary to popular belief, Rastafarians are opposed to smoking marijuana merely for recreational purposes. Instead, it is typically employed in highly ritualized religious rites to promote sentiments of solidarity and aid in the creation of calming, spiritual visions.
Among rastafarians, smoking marijuana is considered a religious ritual.
Supporting the rights of the people has become a way of life for Blakk Rasta. And he affirms to Giovani that he is not sorry to champion the legalisation of marijuana in Ghana.
“Absolutely no regrets. I mean, it simply gives me the knowledge to be able to view the world more clearly, and it gives me the impression that, yes, I’m fighting for the people. Going to the parliament house to advocate for marijuana that I don’t myself smoke was perhaps the only incident that I had that gained attention.
“I’ve never smoked a smokable substance. I’ve never consumed alcohol.”
Blakk Rasta went on to say that the majority of his action is not for his own benefit, but rather the benefit of many. He wants his contributions to be recognized for what they are.
“So many of the causes I champion are solely for the benefit of the populace.
“And if they claim that you have raised enough awareness about marijuana, they will quickly legalize it. I think, “Wow, these folks really need to apologize to me.”
