Summary:
The Senior Editor oversees major strands for Aljazeera.com. You will have final publishing rights for their respective strands. You will ensure the highest standards of journalism, engagement, and creativity.
The position leads a team of digital producers and reporters that commission and create original content (print and video) for the website and social platform consumption based on the strands they oversee.
The Senior Editor oversees and edits website content, directs editorial meetings, provides feedback to editors and producers and checks all potential stories for accuracy and editorial standards.

- Type: Remote – Full Time Freelance (1 year, Extendable)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide editorial and strategic direction on their respective strands of expertise
- Service other editorial departments with original native content based on their strands
- Strategize across digital teams to ensure that Planning, Engagement, and Audience Development departments are leveraging the original content being produced by their strands
- Decide upon and finalize production schedules and projects based on their strands
- Manage the freelance story selection and commissioning process on behalf of their strands
- Revise and finalize all relevant scripts
- Final publishing rights on the website for their strands
Key Requirements:
- Degree in journalism, communication, or related field
- Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in journalism with increasing levels of responsibilities
- Outstanding ability to write and copy edit all digital content
- Broad understanding of current global news trends and issues
- Excellent editorial judgment of global issues
- Strong understanding of social media networks and online video consumption and audiences
- A passion and commitment to the Al Jazeera spirit of journalism
