The Head of Business Development will be reporting directly to the CEO and will be closely working with the local Sales teams.

The position holder is expected to:

  • formulate an effective sales strategy for the steel products for exports to African countries and to increase sales across the region in order to meet sales targets
  • act as an interface between the company and the customer and showcase the organization as a preferred partner within the policies and protocols of the organization.
  • to create a distribution structure at the neighboring countries where the company is not currently present. This could include setting up trading divisions in other countries.

Main responsibilities:

Planning & Strategy

  • Study the market, identify the product gaps / opportunity for service differentiation / low market geographies and formulate and oversee the implementation of strategies to bridge gaps
  • Strategize to win new customers (construction companies, distributors, agents and industries) and retain existing customer base so as to increase the market share across the region
  • Provide market intelligence to marketing team in terms of market size, competition, organization’s share etc. and ensure the profitable business growth
  • Understand the overall organizational strategy, develop and implement strategic sales and marketing plans in alignment with the overall organizational strategy
  • Develop and manages sales/marketing operating budgets and oversee expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements
  • Forecast the demand, work closely with multiple teams (manufacturing, supply chain, finance, HR, legal departments etc.) to achieve the set business objectives
  • Liaise with key clients, to showcase organization’s capability, quality and service standards
  • Support sales representative with maintaining relationships, negotiations and deal closure
  • Review periodic sales report showcasing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion, analyze sales performances against programs, quotes and plans to determine effectiveness
  • Review reports and participate in reviews with management and share updates
  • Seek management support in closing turnkey projects and approval for providing discounted rates
  • Follow-up for collection of overdue and avoid / eliminate any bad debt scenario

Client Relationship Management

  • Interact with new customers / key dealers with a view to build relations and identify new business opportunities to increase market share
  • Seek to understand customer satisfaction with the product and services rendered by the organization
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Represent company at trade association meetings to promote products


  • Master in business administration / sales / marketing or any other relevant degree
  • Large experience in sales / business development in the steel industry
  • Knowledge of the African region with an international background
  • Very good understanding of economic and market trends in the steel industry across geographies
  • In-depth knowledge of sales and marketing strategies in the steel industry
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English are required
  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership skills
  • Team worker, quality and service oriented
  • Client focused with sales drive
  • Willing to relocate to West Africa and to be ready to travel across African countries
