The US Department of state’s website is now open to take in new entries for the 2025 American Diversity Visa Lottery (DV lottery). Entry Requirements:
- You are eligible to apply if you come from a country that have historically had low rates of immigration to the US
- If you are not from a country with low rates of immigration to the US, you have two options to be eligible:
- If your spouse’s nation has low US immigration, you can take your his/her birth country if you both are listed on the chosen entry
- if neither of your parents were born or legally residing there and their country in question country is eligible for the programme, you may be able to take that country as your own and apply
- Applicants should have at least a high school education, which implies a successfully completed a 12-year course of formal elementary and secondary education, or have any other equivalent qualification.
Or
- have at least two years of work experience in a profession that requires a minimum of two years of training or experience within the past five years.
Ineligibility
- Countries that are not eligible for this year’s programme are as follows: Canada, Nigeria, Bangladesh, China (including Hong Kong), India, Pakistan, South Korea, Philippines, and Vietnam,Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela.
- Applicants who submit more that one entry would be automatically disqualified

- Carefully ready every bit of information on the website before proceeding to apply
- To begin your application press on the button that says “Begin Entry”
- Complete the authentication process by entering and submitting the numbers or letters provided
- After this, proceed to fill and submit their electronic form
- After successfully submission, you will be given a confirmation number
- When the confirmation number appears, ensure to print it, take a screenshot or write it some where safe as you will not have access to it after you close the page
- You must keep your confirmation number safe to check your status in September 30, 2025. That is when results will be out
- No messages will be sent to applicants so you are to manually check your status
