Ghanaian musicians, Blakk Rasta, Ras Kuuku, Stonbwoy, Actress Lydia Forson and Accra Academy High School greeted Achimota School’s saga with displeasure.

Blakk Rasta who took to Facebook expressed his feelings about the matter. He wondered why our culture gladly embraces the wearing of wigs but denounces natural Rasta hairstyles. He went ahead to state that Ghana indeed deserves re-enslavement.

Also commenting on the issue is our very own Ras Kuuku. He sent a strong message to Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as Achimota School. In a Facebook post, Ras Kuukumade it clear that one’s hairstyle does not define his or her brilliance. Therefore, to him, it is senseless to deprive someone of his right to education just because of his hairdo. He mentioned that hairstyle is a way of life and anyone chooses which one he or she wants. For this reason, it is abnormal to sack students because of their locks. He called them hypocrites. To him, low-key, they enjoy music produced by musicians in dreadlocks.

Accra Academy, Achimota School’s rival, has joined in to oppose the sacking of students due to their Rasta hair. In pictures circulating on social media, a young boy in dreadlocks is seen posing with students and a teacher on the school’s campus. It appears Accra Academy is comfortable with admitting Rastafarians to their school.

Celebrities like Stonebwoy and Lydia Forson have also fired the school authorities for rejecting the boys.

Not long ago, news had it that, two students in dreadlocks have been denied admission at Achimota School. The school did not admit them because of their hairdo. A parent of one of the students angrily turned to social media to register his displeasure. In a considerably long post, he promised to fight against this issue until it reaches a rational conclusion. According to him, keeping dreadlocks or being a Rastafarian does not go against the constitution of the land.
