3 students of OWASS arrested for armed robbery

Three (3) students of the prestigious Santasi-based Opoku Ware School (OWASS) in Kumasi have been arrested for armed robbery.

The Kumasi Central police detained the three students, Akwasi Adu Donkor, Raphael Owusu Appiah, and Kwadwo Osei Asubonteng, for assaulting a taxi driver and stealing his cab at gunpoint on Thursday, August 11.

Police notified the school administration on Friday morning, and it was determined that the suspects were in fact Opoku Ware School students.

The three suspects had been removed from the boarding house, according to records, the school stated in a statement on Tuesday, August 16.

“Akwasi Adu Donkor and Asubonteng Osei Kwadwo were ejected from the boarding home on the same day for the following offenses: Breaking school bounds, Dressing inappropriately inside, and Fighting inside.”

These children were accused of a number of offenses in the statement that Bismark Agyemang Duah, the secretary to the school’s disciplinary committee, signed.

The two are alleged to steal frequently, regularly abuse other students. Also, they are known to be habitual absent-lookers.

In addition, Owusu Appiah Raphael was expelled from the boarding house for repeatedly stealing from his roommates. Following this incident, he and four other students appeared before the D.C. for breaking into someone’s home without permission at TUC. Despite leaving the boarding house, he has continued to hide in the dormitory.

The school administration claims that all efforts to change these children have failed.

The school said that “their parents have been asked to the school on numerous times to discuss the behavior of their children with them.”

“It is unfortunate to learn that Mr. Akwasi Oduro Boateng, the then assistant headmaster, was ridiculed and almost physically assaulted by Raphael Owusu Appiah’s father. He asserted that the assistant principal detested his son and just wanted to see him out from the boarding house.

Authorities were upset that these teenagers disregarded all the advice offered to them, the statement said.

“We want to make it clear that the boys are our students, but at the time of the occurrence, they had already finished school and were meant to be under their parents’ care.”
